Unlikely hero Paul Thomas saves the day
Fishguard seconds travelled all the way down to Pembroke on Saturday to play what turned out to be a very good match. Fishguard dominated the first 30 minutes into the game with Ronan Scarlett scoring yet another goal to make Fishguard go into the lead, just 10mins after Ronan put away his goal Jamie Vaughan blasted the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0. After the two conceding goals Pembroke Boro pilled on the attack, Fishguard lost concentration to allow Pembroke to score their first goal of the game. Fishguard had a couple of chances from then but didn't put them away, which let Pembroke to pile on the attack yet again. Fishguard's defence battled well and tried to hold off the attack, but Pembroke's attack was to strong for the defence and the scored again to make the game 2-2.
Halftime 2-2
Pembroke attacked straight from the start of the second half, but Fishguard defended excellent with Gary Hall and Daniel John staying strong at the back. Pembroke kept coming on the attack, and Fishguard gave away a free kick just outside the box. Wayne Carroll argued with the Ref about the decision, the Ref then booked Wayne and gave him his 2nd yellow card of the game. Fishguard stayed strong and kept battling hard with ten men, but Pembroke broke through once more to take the lead and make it 3-2. Fishguard then went back on the attack, trying to get the equalizer that they deserved so much. Late in the game Owen Duggan stroke the ball just inside Pembroke's box, the shot looked as if it was going in but Jamie Vaughan helped the ball go over the line. Unfortunately for Fishguard and Jamie, Jamie came from an offside position and the Ref disallowed the goal. Fishguard carried on battling right to the dieing minutes; Fishguard went on their last attack of the game on won a corner. Paul Thomas stepped up to take the corner; he placed the ball down and took his time. Paul blasted the ball straight into the box towards the keeper's path, the ball took a wicked deflection of their keeper and went inn, that's Paul's 1st goal of the season. This meant that Fishguard had equalized just in time before the final whistle blew for full time.
